7 Fun Speech Therapy Activities

As Speech Therapists, we are often looking for Speech therapy activities that are easy and fun (and are no-prep!).

I’m sharing 7 easy activities that you can use with things you already own (i.e. there’s no extra cost or prep -win-win!).

You can use this speech therapy activities to target a variety of expressive language goals, receptive language goals, articulation goals, and more!

  • Play Hide and Seek: You can use Hide and Seek for toddlers and preschoolers as a speech and language activity that will allow you target so many expressive and receptive language skills! Safety first here! If you don’t think your student is ready to play the traditional hide and seek, you can use toy and animal sets to play hide and seek. Your students will love taking turns counting and hiding people and finding them. This is a great activity to target spatial concepts (talk about where they are), verb vocabulary (have the “finder” move in different ways), negation (he is NOT there), verb tenses (talk about what the toy is doing, will do, and has done).

  • Minute to Win It Games: All you need are plastic cups, cotton balls, and straws to play some really fun games. You can Goggle Minute to Win it Games for ideas! These are a great reinforcer activity or sequencing activity (have the student explain how to play the game to you!). You could also pair this activity with drill cards and incorporate them into the games!

  • Fun Bucket of Toys: This will be a hit with your students! Grab your fvorite toys for preschoolers (food, toy animals, plates, blocks - anything), and place them in a box! Follow your child’s lead and watch their imagination come to life! You will be able to target play skills, sequencing, speech sounds, spatial concepts, early developing concepts and more!

  • Act out a Story: Grab one of your favorite books for preschoolers and act it out! You can act it out while you’re reading it or afterwards. This is a great speech therapy activity to target sequencing, story grammar, verbs, pronouns, and verb tenses.

  • Movement Animal Game: This is a great gross motor preschool game! Grab some of your favorite toy animals, pictures of animals, or animal puzzle pieces. Place them in a bag, and draw one out a time. Move like each animal! You could also make it a Cherades game and guess what animal you are moving like. You can target verbs (use creative verbs), verb tenses, (talk about what you did once you are done moving like the animal), and describing (talk about each animal’s appearance).

  • Play Hopscotch: Head outside and make a chalk hopscotch. Write your target words in each square. Can’t get outside? Make a hopscotch track using painters tape!
